Jessica Amat Garcia's Entrepreneurial Journey at Moore
When Jessica Amat Garcia began her senior year at Marion C. Moore High School, she faced challenges that would test her strength and determination. Over the summer, her family was involved in a severe car accident that left her temporarily wheelchair-bound and her mother requiring multiple surgeries. Yet, Jessica refused to let these obstacles define her final year of high school.
Now nearing the end of her senior year, Jessica has not only recovered but also campaigned for and won the role of senior class president. As a first-generation American, whose parents moved to the United States in search of greater opportunities, Jessica has embraced every challenge as a chance to grow. "I know my parents are very proud of me," she says.
Drawing inspiration from her family’s entrepreneurial success, she has charted her own path forward, one that blends creativity, leadership, and resilience. Now, as she prepares to graduate and attend Bellarmine University on a full-tuition scholarship, Jessica is ready to launch into college and pursue a future as a marketing professional and entrepreneur. "If not for the academies, I wouldn't know how much I love being in the business world," Jessica reflects.
Early Beginnings and Inspiration
Jessica's journey at Moore High School began with a clear vision of her future. Originally from West Palm Beach, Florida, Jessica moved to Louisville in 2019. Her decision to join the Management & Entrepreneurship Academy was influenced by her family's background in business and her own passion for leadership.
Growing up as a first-generation American, Jessica often found herself bridging two cultures. "I've had to put myself out there. I have had to serve as a translator for my family. It is an honor to have these two languages by heart," she says. This experience of navigating between worlds has shaped her approach to leadership and communication.
Entrepreneurial Ventures and Real-World Experiences
The Management & Entrepreneurship Academy at Moore has provided Jessica with hands-on experiences that have fueled her passion for business. She has been actively involved in the school's Beta Club, and student council, and served as a photographer for The Scholarly.
One of Jessica's most significant contributions has been her instrumental role in developing Moore High School's new student store. She took charge of creating design lists, selecting products, and even leading tours for grant representatives. "I'm still excited to see how it will go," she says, looking forward to the store's opening next year. Her involvement in this project demonstrates her capacity to manage long-term initiatives and work effectively with external partners.
Academic Achievements and Personal Growth
Jessica's experiences at Moore High School, coupled with her participation in the prestigious Governor's Scholar Program (GSP), have significantly shaped her academic journey and career aspirations. Her hard work and dedication have paid off, as Jessica has secured a full-tuition scholarship to Bellarmine University.
At Bellarmine, Jessica plans to major in marketing and business administration, building on the skills she has developed through her involvement in various projects at Moore. Her participation in the Management & Entrepreneurship Academy has provided her with hands-on experiences that have fueled her passion for business, and she looks forward to further developing these skills in her college studies.
Looking ahead, Jessica envisions a career in marketing, drawing inspiration from her experiences in social media management and graphic design. Her involvement in various projects during her time at Moore High School and the Governor's Scholar Program has further solidified her interest in these fields. Jessica's passion for travel adds an interesting dimension to her future aspirations, potentially combining her love for marketing with her enthusiasm for new experiences.
