Taste of Success: Academies of Louisville Students Compete in Jr. Chef Challenge

The Kentucky State Fair hosted an exciting Jr. Chef Competition on August 18, 2024, showcasing young culinary talent from across the state. Students from the Academies of Louisville participated under the guidance of Chef Paul Hensel, a Culinary Instructor at Marion C. Moore School, and Chef Devonte Bolden, Executive Chef at University of Louisville Hospital. The team was tasked with modernizing a classic school lunch tray, choosing to revamp Chicken Fajita Tacos.

The team showcased their impressive skills and dedication, earning a commendable fourth place in the competition. The students involved included:

  • DeAndre Conn (Moore, 12th grade)

  • Roman Furmaga (Moore, 12th grade)

  • Jordan Townsend (Doss, 12th grade)

  • Collin Williams (Moore, 12th grade) - recipient of the "Golden Spoon" award for the second year in a row as the Most Valuable team member.

The Jr. Chef Competition not only allows students to apply their culinary education but also fosters teamwork and innovation, reinforcing the Academies of Louisville's commitment to preparing students for successful careers in various fields, including culinary arts.
