From Shy Student to Vocal Advocate: London Purdie's Journey in Pre-Law Studies

London Purdie, a senior at Seneca High School, has transformed from a quiet newcomer to a confident advocate for herself and others. Her journey in the Pre-Law Studies Pathway has not only shaped her academic pursuits but also helped her discover her voice and passion for justice.

Finding Her Voice

"I have a voice, and I'm always using it," London declares, a statement that encapsulates her remarkable growth. When she first arrived at Seneca High School in the middle of her freshman year, London was shy and reserved. Moving from the small town of New Albany, Indiana, to the bustling city of Louisville, Kentucky, was a significant change.

Initially, London struggled to connect with her peers. "I was really shy. I did well in school, but I had a hard time talking to people," she recalls. Her freshman year was spent in a self-imposed bubble, often eating lunch alone in the counselor's corner.

Academy Ambassador Training: A Turning Point

London's transformation began in her sophomore year when she joined the National Honor Society, became an Academy Ambassador, and participated in Mock Trial. These experiences, coupled with the support of her teachers and counselors, helped her emerge from her shell.

The Academy Ambassador training proved to be a turning point for London. "This was probably the most important conversation of my life," she reflects on the small talk exercises that initially made her shake with nervousness. The training taught her valuable communication skills and emphasized the importance of making eye contact during conversations. "I had to see them as a person," London explains.

Embracing the Pre-Law Pathway

From a young age, London knew she wanted to be a lawyer. "I was meant to be a lawyer," she states confidently. Her mother often remarked on her skill in arguing, and by nine years old, London had set her sights on a legal career.

At Seneca, London has immersed herself in the Pre-Law Studies Pathway, taking classes in criminal law, civil law, and evidence law. These courses have deepened her understanding of the legal field and reinforced her passion for justice.

Real-World Learning Experiences

London's education extends beyond the classroom. She has visited the Kentucky Supreme Court and the Jefferson County courthouse—experiences that have solidified her career aspirations. After meeting with one of Justice Angela Bisig's clerks, London realized, "I could see myself in her place. I could envision myself in this career." Competing in Mock Trial has further honed London's skills, where praise from practicing attorneys has boosted her confidence.

Making Her Mark

London's involvement in school activities has been transformative not only for her but for the school community as well. Mrs. Emily Wirtzberger, Academy Coach, praises London's leadership: "London has been vital to the Academy Ambassadors. She is trustworthy – she will do it well, and she'll do it right."

As London prepares for college and her future legal career, she reflects on her journey: "I have left my mark on this school." Her experiences at Seneca have equipped her with the skills, confidence, and passion to pursue her dreams of becoming a lawyer and potentially a Supreme Court justice one day.

London Purdie's story is a testament to the power of finding one's voice and using it to advocate for oneself and others. From a shy freshman to a confident senior, London has embraced her role as a leader and future legal professional, ready to make her mark on the world beyond Seneca High School.
